Matrix 4 - Just in case - What it can be

Ranger07's recent Matrix 4 question brings a new thing in mind. If
there is going to be another Matrix movie or movie series, what would
it be all about? Any ideas?

At first thought, as I think, seeing developments in MxO... Neo is
dead, Morpheus is also dead, so there is a whole new breed of
characters with some familiars like Niobe or Ghost, there can be
another war (inside and outside the Matrix), more chaotic, which can
give material for three movies (story develops a little slow, though).
And then, third and final trilogy shows us ultimate final battle of
human race - war between machines and humans (most of it ouside the
Matrix), and humans win, the matrix, power plant, machines, everything
is gone. At the end, Humans clear the scortched sky and rebuid the
Earth. One branch to this can be that humans take over the Matrix.
Since the Earth is not proper for living, rest of humans (people not
taking part in rebuilding the Earth) have to live within the matrix
until the Earth is restored back.

However, this looks like much (actually most) typical story, which
brothers didn't wanted from the beginning. So if it is not this, what
it can be???

A war between Humans themselve over the Matrix, maybe some humans made
a deal with the machines, so they can rule the matrix with them aginst
the rest of the huminty. I don't know, but they got to be many new
ideas out there

I don't think there will be a fourth Matrix movie and especially not another
trilogy, at least not for a long time. The Wachowskis have made it clear
that they want to move past The Matrix for now and prove their worth as
movie makers without depending on a franchise that the public has obviously
grown tired of (still my favorite of all time, by far).

The Matrix will continue through various other media for a while -- mainly
video games, but perhaps also some cartoon/anime stuff, comics, and maybe
eventually some "expanded universe" novels.

I'm surprised the Matrix movies haven't been novelized yet...

I wouldn't want to see a continuation of the story beyond Neo, myself.

I've had this thing in my head for a while about the Potentials - the
guys who are built up into believing that they might be super-special,
but are eventually told that they're not all *that*. Nonetheless, they
are still potentially more powerful than your average redpill. So that
makes an interesting mix of big power and big resentment at not being
the One. There's room for angst in there. And brawling. :)

So, I'd make a film set in Matrix 3.0 or 4.0 with a gang of super-heroes
called The Potentials. You could have Merv and Persy, maybe flesh out
their relationship with Seraph, and the Oracle could be there in a
younger shell, and all kinds of fun and games could ensue...

But that's a thing in *my* head, not in Larry or Andy Wachowski's head,
so who knows?

Well remember that those programs (Merovingian, Persephone, etc.) recognize
each other by their code, not their shells, so a film could be made
independent of WB and the Wachowskis if the Wachowskis okayed it, and
completely different actors could play the same characters in different
versions of the Matrix.

Can we be sure that other filmmakers and actors would be capable to
keep that same style and theme that Wachowskis had? This type of
changes are very less accepted by the audiance. I frankly say about
myself, I would not like other people than Wachowskis make official
Matrix sequels. However films based on Matrix theme by other filmmakers
would be interesting.

Of course not. You can never be sure of anything, and especially not
consistency of style and substance when all the ingredients are changed. But
you can hope that the result is something still worth viewing, and maybe it
will do the theme justice.

There probably will never again be any "official" Matrix sequels. Maybe a
prequel, but I doubt that too. Anything else that is done with the Matrix
for the big screen will be done by someone else, methinks.

Ahem. I know this is not the first time I've mentioned this, but...

There is still no conclusive proof that Neo is dead.

How postmodern of you!

And I agree. No conclusive proof that he is alive or dead. I'm quite
agnostic about it. :)

But then what about Matrix Online story?

However, if Neo is dead, what is the meaning of Sati asking Oracle
"Will we ever see him again?" at the end of Revolutions, and Oracle
replying "I expect so. Someday."?

Neo is the sixth version of "The One" so I think that The Oracle means "The One
will return someday"

According to a story told specifically to elicit a specific reaction from
the humans. We don't know how much of the story the Architect, the Oracle,
or even Morpheus told is true. They may not even know, since the machines
are all programmed and Morpheus apparently knows what he knows through them
(whether directly or indirectly).

Zion may be real, but it's still part of the illusion since the machines had
to help build it *if* the story of previous anomalies is true. And if it's
not, then they're still deceiving the humans. So one way or another, it's
all a big deception.

At the moment, or the last time I checked at least, that was
inconclusive too. In fact, the code fragments that have appeared in the
Mega City indicate, if anything, that he is alive.

Still inconclusive.

The code the anomaly carries is what made Neo who he was when Sati met him.
"Thomas Anderson" -- i.e. the Matrix person we saw who looked like Keanu
Reeves -- is dead forever. Neo, on the other hand, might not be, and I don't
think he is.

But the only reasoning I have for that thought is my understanding of the
Wachowskis' work.
